A state prisoner may leave custody at the maximum release date, enter parole, or move through another authorized release process. Someone released from a Grady County jail booking should first be confirmed through the sheriff release record and court docket. Use GDC only when the person is or was a state offender. The distinction prevents a common error: a name disappearing from the county jail population does not establish a GDC discharge, and a state search result does not explain every local bond release.

Begin at GDC Find an Offender and follow its Search Now path. The direct query requires acceptance of a disclaimer. Search with an ID when known, since names and aliases may overlap.
- Enter a GDC ID or use the available name fields.
- Choose an institution only when the placement is known. The list includes Grady County Jail and Grady County CI.
- Use the sentence-status control when relevant. It includes “Released In The Past 15 Days.”
- Compare identifiers, institution, sentence status, offenses, and any displayed photograph.
- Verify the result through GDC Inmate Records before relying on it as complete.
The recent-release option is a short state window, not a permanent Grady release list. If a released state offender falls outside it, use broader identifiers and the written records route. For a local booking instead, use the Grady County release-record path.

GDC posts a three-business-day initial response under its process. It lists non-medical copies at $0.10 each and search or redaction time at the hourly rate of the lowest-paid qualified employee. Medical, mental-health, security-classification, and certain institutional material are among its common exceptions. A narrow request for an existing release date, status, or discharge record is more precise than a demand for the whole institutional file.

Search fields must be read together. A photograph can help distinguish names, but it is not a release record. Institution data can reflect placement rather than the place of final discharge. Written confirmation remains important when timing or destination matters.
Grady State Versus Jail Records
The Grady County Detention Facility holds local detainees and may also intersect with state custody. GDC's institution list includes “GRADY COUNTY JAIL,” which lets a state inmate housed there appear in the state system. It does not transform every county detainee into a GDC offender.

Use the sheriff at 229-377-5200, the release sheet, and the Grady court docket for bond, time served, dismissal, or transfer.
State sentence
Use GDC offender search, Inmate Records, and the Parole Board or DCS when community supervision follows release.
A transfer from the jail to GDC is not a community release. Ask the sheriff for the receiving agency, then allow for intake and data updates before repeating the state search. Likewise, “Released” from GDC does not by itself show whether parole or another form of supervision continues.
Georgia Release Card Funds
GDC has a specific post-release money process that does not apply to an ordinary Grady jail bond-out. Its Georgia Release Card page says funds left on a state offender's books are transferred to a release card. The card can be used for purchases at once, while ATM and cash-back use requires PIN activation.
This detail helps identify which system handled the release. Questions about a GDC release card belong with the state process and its listed support channel, not with the county sheriff. Conversely, property or funds connected only to a Grady County Detention Facility booking should be directed to the jail after confirming its current procedures. Never assume the state card policy governs county-held money.
Georgia DOC Date Meanings
A projected date and an actual release are not the same. The Maximum Release Date reflects the sentence endpoint as calculated by the state. A Tentative Parole Month comes from the Parole Board's process and is not a final parole decision. Eligible offenders may receive Performance Incentive Credit that reduces TPM or MRD, while exclusions and sentence rules can limit that relief.

GDC's recent-release filter confirms a status within its window, but the state record should be checked alongside Parole Board and DCS information when supervision matters. Do not infer a person's precise outcome from a general statute alone.
Verify Georgia DOC Results
GDC itself tells users to verify public search information with Inmate Records and Information. Include the person's full name, GDC ID when known, and the exact field sought. A request might ask for actual release date, release type, discharge status, or the institution from which the offender left. Avoid asking the agency to create a narrative it does not keep.
Georgia's Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. 50-18-70 et seq., governs the request, but exemptions can restrict parts of an institutional file. The public form can be fast, while written correspondence can be more durable. If GDC has no match and the event began as a local Grady arrest, return to the sheriff and clerk rather than concluding that no release occurred.
