Georgia Registry After Release
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Sex Offender Registry applies only to people legally required to register. It is not a general list of Grady County released inmates. A qualifying person may appear after release from jail or prison, placement on parole, supervised release or probation, or entry into Georgia.
The registry cannot establish every custody event. Confirm physical release with the sheriff, GDC, or federal agency. Use the registry only for the separate statutory registration status and current public information it is authorized to display.

Use the official GBI registry and read its conditions of use. Search with enough detail to distinguish similar names.

The Grady release search covers the broader population. No registry result does not prove a person was never released or never convicted.

Registry staff and jail records staff perform different work. Direct a registration question to the registry channel and a release-sheet request to the holding agency.
Georgia Registry Record Scope
Georgia identifies GBI as the central repository under O.C.G.A. 42-1-12. The public registry is updated continuously, but updates still depend on legal duties and agency reporting. It should not be described as a booking roster or recent-release feed.

A registry entry can remain relevant long after custody ends. That persistence is why it must not be read as proof of current incarceration.
Grady Registration After Release
The Grady sheriff page summarizes reporting duties that can arise within 72 hours after release, placement on parole, supervised release or probation, or entry into Georgia. Exact duties depend on the law and person's status. The registry source should be consulted rather than applying a general summary to an individual case.
The local page also states that a person convicted and released from prison before July 1996 is not required to register under the described rule. That statement is specific and should not be reversed into an assumption about anyone released later. Verify eligibility and duties with the responsible agency.
Georgia Registry Photos
Registry records may include an identifying photograph, but that image serves the registry purpose. It is not the same as a county booking-photo release or a GDC offender photograph. Each image has a different source and record context.
Georgia booking-photo disclosure is constrained by O.C.G.A. 35-1-19, and O.C.G.A. 50-18-72 cross-references that rule. A law-enforcement agency can restrict disclosure where a requester may publish a booking photograph and demand payment for removal. Use lawful official request paths and do not treat registry images as a substitute gallery.
Grady Registry Search Limits
Only registrable offenses and people belong in this database. The registry cannot be used to look up every released detainee, every probationer, or every person with an arrest record. Court and custody sources cover those broader questions.

Verify Grady Custody Separately
Call the Grady sheriff at 229-377-5200 for a local release record. Use GDC when a state sentence applies, BOP for federal prisoners, and ICE ODLS for immigration detention. A registry match does not tell which agency last held the person.
For case disposition, use the Grady clerk and court docket. This separation protects accuracy: conviction and registration, physical custody, and community supervision are linked events, but they are not interchangeable records.
A careful timeline may include conviction, sentence, release, registration, and later address updates. The court supplies the judgment. The jail or prison supplies the release. GBI and the local sheriff maintain registration information. DCS may administer supervision. When a registry entry changes, do not revise earlier custody history without checking its source. Likewise, a valid release record does not establish whether each later registration duty was met. Keeping these events separate improves accuracy and respects the registry's narrow legal purpose.
